Academic Background

Flavia Echanove is a professor and researcher at the Geography Institute, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM). She focuses on the effects of agricultural policies on grain producers and industries in Mexico. Mainly through fieldwork, she had been studying the cases of sorghum and maize in different regions of that country, conducting interviews to producers and its organizations as well as government officials. She has undertaken research for international organizations and her work is cited in professional circles. She is an author of one book and co–author of another three, and has published forty refereed articles and chapters. She has given over almost fifty conference presentations and had been responsible of a variety of institutional research projects supported by different agencies (FAO, CONACYT (Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de México), Rockefeller Foundation, USDA, USAID, etc.).
